PDH opportunity for pipeline professionals, cryogenic and refrigerated storage tanks represent a critical interface where design assumptions, code requirements, and operational realities converge. This presentation provides a technical overview of cryogenic storage tank systems with emphasis on design philosophy, governing standards (API 625, API 620, NFPA 59A, and 49 CFR Part 193), and execution-phase lessons learned. Topics include containment concepts, materials of construction, foundations, insulation, tank appurtenances, pressure relief, boil-off gas handling, and post-construction activities such as testing, purging, and cooldown. 

Presenter:

Rama Challa, PhD, PE is an engineering leader with over 20 years of experience in the design and execution of cryogenic and refrigerated storage tank systems for LNG, ammonia, hydrogen, NGL, crude, and refined products. He is an internationally recognized subject-matter expert in storage tank engineering and has delivered complex EPC projects from concept through commissioning.  Rama serves as Chair of the API Cryogenic and Refrigerated Tank Standards Committee, overseeing API 625, API 626, and API 620 Annexes Q and R, and is an active member of the API Subcommittee on Aboveground Storage Tanks. He advises owners, operators, and EPC organizations on storage tank design, standards application, constructability, and pipeline-terminal integration
